  1. The chapel service and forum that was ministered by Dr. Weems was the most rewarding hours of my life thus far this year. My approach to reading and “footnotes” has taken a total u-turn for the good and I look forward to pursuing higher academic achievements in the future.

The only thing that was really heartwrenching about the forum was the students who asked questions which only centered and was governed by the box that they live in and their cultural, denominational, and family standards. Apparently it will take some work on their behalf to unlearn what was “beaten” into them by individuals who had the same manner of understanding “beaten’ into them. Dr. Weems presented the toolbox to free us up and sadly some individuals may still refuse to leave Egypt.

  2. Hello ,
Thank Bishop, Dr. Karanja, and Dr. Keiller, im so greatful about yesterday in the Chapel. it was great and needful in this time. She brought a new perspective to the word Call. The controversy was wrong that some of the beulah students and faculty was kind of wrong of what they was trying to do. We need more of Sympsium in the chapel. Thank you so much for that.

  3. I am encouraged to see the responses to the theological symposium. You have restored my faith and encouraged my heart! Yesterday, I saw more thinking and reflection than I have seen in the ten years that I have been at Beulah.

Controversial, yes. Thought provoking, certainly! As an institution of higher learning in the pursuit of God, we must become comfortable in matters of ethical, ministerial practice. It is good when that comfortability is challenged.

So many of you have stopped me to offer your affirmation for the symposium. To you I offer my thanks! Please look for more of these type events in the future.

    Bless you,

    Bishop Alvarado

  5. Thank you for this opportunity to share some of my thoughts concerning “Clarifying the Call.” I always come to Chapel. I love Chapel. I can truly say Dr. Renita J. Weems’ message has been life changing for me. Her message compelled me to think critically, which is something that has preached to me ever since I have been at this University. Her quote “Your purpose in life is to find out what is your purpose in life.” Her message is now challenging me to rethink my whole educational process and reconsider my major. I am now grappling with many issues that I was staunch on. We are called to walk in love for our fellow man and to serve others unselfishly. We can no longer afford to make rash decision or make foolish statements without realizing there are significant consequences that will come back to haunt you. We must me careful to speak after we have done our thorough research on the matter. Then we may be allowed to speak.
Thank you Professor Alvarado for bringing to us people of Dr. Weems’ caliber. She is “worth her weight in gold”

  6. This week was a learning experience for me, although at the beginning I thought I would be overwhelmed with work, there was a spirit around campus which I have not experienced in my two plus years here. It was so strong, that at the end I feel, seriously, that the week was too short. Each day in my “student leader” class has been a blessing. Learning something new or hearing things said in ways that cause them to stick in one’s mind. I am now in a position not only to lead with humility, but to be a good listener and to lead by example.

I had two extraordinary chapel experiences this week. First, Dr. Weems whose sermon was soul searching. It has let me with the desire to move well beyond the “bachelor”. According to a quote from Pastor Wes, Dr. Weems is sending me to “finish the race”

Thursday morning in chapel with Pastor Wes is what I will always need – that type of lubricant to keep me propelling.

  7. This has been an exquisite week . the meal perpared for the students was like” a steak entre” which is new to me, yet to recieve “this chicken entre” which is not new to me was eloquent because I’ve never tasted such a meal. for that I say thanks.

    Thank you
    Bishop

p.s. I will never be the same

  8. Bishop I am grateful that you allowed the student body a forum by which to post our thoughts on the forum.I believe that what Dr. Reems brought to the symposium was very thought provoking and as a student at an institution of higher learning, I appreciated that. What good is our theology if it can never be challenged? Dr. Reems is our sister and a co-laborer in the body of Christ, so how much more should we be ready for dialogues and intelligent exchanges from those who represent other religions and even worse – agents from the kingdom of darkness in this 21st century era. If we as graduates and chosen people of Christ are not ready to respond in a more confident manner to very relevant and prominent issues that affect this sacred institution that we call church, then perhaps we might need to rethink our “call” before we enter ministry and marketplace. I absolutely loved every moment of it and look forward to events of this caliber in the future.

  9. Bishop, I also send kudos to you and your staff. As an alum of Beulah and currently a seminary student, I thank you for your great thought in inviting Dr. Weems. Unfortunately, because of my work schedule, I dont’ have an opportunity to share in Chapel, but I took time off just to hear this great woman and I did not leave disappointed. I look forward to see what God has in store for this great Body of Believers.
